Joseph Mutero & Africa Sounds – Tiri Vadoko

A kind acquaintance named Benni found this in Zimbabwe in 1993 so we’re dusting it off in praise of another beautiful day in New York City.

Awesome Tapes from Africa DJ sets in France coming up:

October 1 Rennes/Pause Métissée L’Ubu with DJ Bone/Labelle/Night Knight

October 2 Paris/Palmwine Party with DJ Orl and Groovy J at Piston Pélican

Thank you! It would be great to have even more zimbabwean sounds! I already enjoyed John Chibadura and the Tempo Brothers very much.

By the way, what if Shakira’s song This time for Africa will be included here? :-) That was dedicated to Africa during World Cup.

@escalante blogger: Shakira’s World Cup hit actually rips the chorus and melody from a famous Cameroonian song, “Zangaléwa,” by the Golden Sounds. It came out in 1986. There is currently a lawsuit pending against Shakira for use of the song without permission or any offer of royalties to the original band. Hear the original here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFwiWff1hkU

I can’t stop listening to this. Truly incredible.

I broke it up into the different tracks, if anyone wants that – let me know and I’ll send you the link.

Dear ATfA guy,

I love your blog with all my heart. I’ve never had such a good time in my life. This tape is giving me terrible feedback. I suspect it’s digital, but it sounds like it could be an old needle/dusty record. And side one wasn’t playing. Could be me, could be something on your end? Just a heads-up.

Keep up the good work!
