Thanks for giving me the opportunity to hear the first cassette Assane Ndiaye,(that I believe it is the nephew of Thione Seck) and he began in the Thione band the Raam Daan.
Fantastic to retrieve these mbalak tapes so little known outside of Senegal.
They are cousins actually (their mothers are sisters). This was his first tape with the Raam-Daan although he used to be there for quite some time. He used to sing a song or two in Thione’s early albums. This tape had a huge success at its release. Unfortunately, a couple of years after, he decided to go on solo, which angered Thione to a point they never spoke until recently when he decided to forgive him.

Nguisstal is also one of the tracks on a CD called “Boul falé” – meaning “never mind”. This is a good compilation of the young post mbalax generation in the suburbs of Dakar.
It is a great song from a great voice! A later version was included on his French produced (?) CD: “Yone wi”, but is a boring remake, compared to the rawness on this tape.
