Not gonna lie. I am into music from Ethiopia/Eritrea in a major way. But even more so, I am getting obsessed with music of a spiritual nature. E.g., this Ethiopian Orthodox Christian mezmur recording is making me straight high. (I got this at an all-Christian music shop in Axum.)

Jumping off point alert: Barcelona's Rádio Web MACBA asked for a podcast so I dug through my tapes and compiled some of my favorite songs of the religious persuasion. Listen and read here.

Comments:
This is the first in a series of albums from one of the best spiritual singers of the ethiopian orthodox church, Yilma Hailu. He has released about 10 albums so far. It is just so amazing! Thank you for posting this.

Nice, nice, nice!! I love the music from the Horn. That been said, do you have any cassette from Equatorial Guinea? I'm Spanish and I would love to listen to African music sung in my language. There are several videos on youtube, but it's not the same!

hey! i would luv to listen to the postcast you made but is there a way to access it without needing itunes?

thanks!

To those who so claim to be in trance and mistake this as a rock and roll genre getting high while they listen, Woe to you music junkies because you do not bear in heart what you are listening to, Woe to you if you are in the wrong as you listen to these tracks which demand that you seek forgiveness relentlessly from the Saviour, His Mother and the Saints, Woe to those who associate random awesomeness to the Holy things for your brains are materialised and full of lust!!! Friendly message from an Ethiopian !!!
