Yowzers this is just what I needed right about now. Rhythmic magic, how these guys swing so deep in the pocket and so in concert with the brilliant singing. Pay particular attention to the female chorus. Holy shit.

this is outstanding! but on the last song, which i like best, i can hear more than a few skips (past the 12 minute mark onwards). a re-up would be sooooo appreciated. thx anyway for this as it is.
Middle Atlas Berber "izlan" song tradition from Morocco. The tape is released by a company in Fes. The king of this style, Mohammed Rouicha, is from Khenifra.
I cant find much of this on youtube. Thanks Tim, I was wondering in the world this was from. I really like the last song.

I donated this one. I picked it up in Meknes, Morocco in 1995. I don't know anything more, I'm afraid...
Not southern morocco but the middle atlas. This style is called izlan and is played mainly by Zayane berber tribes.

I had a friend translate the cover. The album is called "Al Reeshah al Dhahabeeyah" - The Golden Feather.
However the track titles are some local dialect that was hard to understand; the one on the left reads "Aoritaa'amitee Aoriya Wa Narreekh", and the one on the right is "Mayatkakh Aythasah Ata'adbtee". The last part of that means "you were in pain", with the "you" being feminine.

as for the 'golden feather' comment, reesha is feather but it's also what they call the long pick they use to play the lautar. 'golden pick' would be a better translation.
