This cassette is perfect in almost every way. It makes me want to drop acid and burn incense or something, it's so smokey and dark and surreal. Like late Coltrane.

The distortion here and there on the second side is the bummer (it's the recording and/or tape, not computer fuzz).

I bought this tape in Bamako in 1986. This is one of the tapes that turned me into a stark raving Malian music fanatic. Great post-- thanks for bringing back the memeories.

great stuff! i'm so psyched to find you. wayne (http://wayneandwax.com/) hipped me to your blog last night, and i'm glad to find it for many reasons. i'm way deep into mali music, so am loving the tapes, and having fun learning more about different places. i am also wondering what to do with my collection of tapes, how to convert them, so if you wanna share your method, please do.

i simply play the tape on my cassette deck plugged into my mac laptop with that iMic thing, recording it in real time with that free program Audacity. pretty ghetto, no?

I did the Peace Corps thing in northern Cameroon during the mid 80s. I collected hundreds of awesome tapes and hundreds of crappy ones too.

I should make some posts; my tapes are just sitting in the garage.
